FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NIAGARA FALLS, January 3rd, 2009 - UNITE HERE and Canadian Niagara Hotels start the new year positively with the Union membership’s overwhelming ratification of a new 3 year collective agreement, moving the parties towards a more stable and positive chapter in labour relations says Alex Dagg, UNITE HERE Canadian Co-Director and Dino A. DiCienzo, President of Canadian Niagara Hotels. Covering more than 450 workers at the Sheraton on the Falls, Crowne Plaza Niagara Falls-Fallsview and the Skyline Inn, the new collective agreement marks a turning point in past labour relations between the parties “As this New Year begins, the union and Canadian Niagara Hotels (CNH) are charting a new course with positive, productive labour relations,” said Dagg. “We know, especially in these difficult economic times, that labour and management need to work together to preserve and grow Niagara’s tourism industry. Form union for dignity and respect at work
For Immediate Release
Niagara Falls - This weekend, workers at the Courtyard Marriott in Niagara Falls voted to join UNITE HERE Local 2347 in a bid to improve working conditions. Workers in housekeeping, laundry and the gift shop are all now members of Niagara’s hospitality union and will begin negotiating their first collective agreement in the New Year.
“I am extremely pleased that my co-workers voted to join UNITE HERE,” said Marie Oddson, a housekeeper at the Courtyard Marriott. “We really need to make things better at work and in the hotel industry as a whole in Niagara. I think that we can make a real difference for our families and for all tourism workers throughout the Niagara region.”
